The Lord Jesus Christ says “I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. They will come in and go out, and find pasture.” John 10:9
Imagery….The gatekeeper opens the gate for the sheep and they all move out to find pasture. The good shepherd knows the location of good pasture and heads his sheep towards it. However, across the meadow in the opposite direction…the lush green grass beckons the sheep. Once the sheep looks and follows its inclination it becomes a lone sheep without the cover of a shepherd; a ready victim for the sly wolf which presents its self as ‘wise’.
I am reminded that the Lord Jesus Christ is not like a hired hand that cares nothing for his master’s sheep. At the sight of a wolf, unlike the hired hand that flees for his life; the Lord Jesus Christ does not abandon the sheep nor run away from the sheep; for HE owns the sheep. The Lord Jesus Christ paid a price for each of his sheep and says “no one will snatch them out of my hand”… “no one will snatch them out of my Father’s hand” John 10:28-29
In Ezekiel 34, “the Sovereign LORD says: I myself will search for my sheep and look after them. I will rescue them from all the places where they were scattered on a day of cloud and darkness.(11-12) I will search for the lost and bring back the strays. I will bind up the injured and strengthen the weak…(16).
“You are my sheep, the sheep of my pasture, and I am your God, declares the Sovereign LORD.” Ezekiel 34:31
