The Philistines plan to go and attack Saul and his Armies; and since David had taken refuge with Achish son of Maok King of Gath, a Philistine leader of Gath. As the Philistines move out to battle ….David on invitation of Achish follows the Philistine’s army into war against the Israelites. He must have been praying God…how do I handle this situation? To war against my brothers ? Help comes his way when the other Philistines take note of the Hebrews in their camp; and God causes them to remember the song …”Saul has slain his thousands, and David his tens of thousands”. This causes uneasy amongst the Philistines and they told David and his men to return back to Philistine. That was an answered prayer for him.
Meanwhile God had allowed a scenario to happen at home while he was travelling with the Philistines. After their 3 days of travel back home; they found when the Amalekites had raided Negev and Ziklag, the home of David and his men. The Amalekites had not only captured their wives, children and every one that had been left behind; but also took everything they owned; and in turn burnt down the city. 1 Samuel 30
‘David and his men wept aloud until they had no strength left to weep’. David was in deep distress, for not only was he deeply suffering from the capture of his 2 wives and family; but his very men who were bitter in spirit wanted to stone him because of their loss. David in this very trying moment turned to God and found strength in the Lord his God.
Times of loss brings deep distress for more often one loss leads to more challenges. Still, in the face of such loss, David did not stop at only weeping out his grief nor did he get angry at God. He chose to seek counsel from God and was strengthened. God assured him of success; and without rest they took to pursuit of the Amalekites. A long fierce battle took place when they found them; and they recovered all that had been stolen from them…none was missing; also a lot more property which the Amalekites had plundered from others (Negev).
Have you been plundered by an enemy? David’s plunder was as a result of David choosing to turn to God in his great distress. God paved for David a way to get back a lot more than had been taken from him and his men. What has the devil stolen from you? Can you trust in God to led you in whatever situation you are going through; and experience that which David experienced…David’s Plunder? David said, “I sought the Lord, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”Psalm.34:4.
“Taste and see that the Lord is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him” Psalm.34:8
