One woman who was in need of understanding the process of refining silver paid a visit to a Refiner. In her findings she noted that the refiner built up a red hot fire; placed a substance that needed to be refined at the end of a metal rod and held it right in the middle of the red-hot fire. He never let go of the metal rod. He watched as substances melted away till he was able to clearly see his reflection in the Silver. That was the time to remove the silver least it was destroyed.
The Lord God said, “I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,’ says the Lord Almighty. But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver;….” Malachi 3:1-3
People of God, we are in a state similar to that of a substance when the Refiner first picks it up…with no clear reflection of the Lord Jesus Christ. The Silver has to emerge; so the Refiner has to work on us. God allows circumstances to come in our lives …leaving us with a feeling of either being swept away by a flood; or unbearable discomfort from a scorching heat. The Refiner is at work; but holds you securely in his hand.
When we learn that the refiner is at work in our lives…it makes it easier and quicker to submit our pains and challenges to the Lord in prayer; and continually seek his face. The Refiner removes silver from the red-hot fire only when he sees his clear reflection in the silver.
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. For I am the Lord your God, the Holy One of Israel, your Saviour”. Isaiah 43:2
