Rarely do we think about God, as a Father whose heart throbs for his children. But, God grieves when one of us strays from him, for each one of us is uniquely created by God. ‘Or do you think Scripture says without reason that he jealously longs for the Spirit he has caused to dwell in us?’ James 4:5
It is noteworthy in the parable of the lost son, that although the Father remained with a son by his side, still his heart yearned for his lost son. The word says that while the prodigal son “… was still a long way off, his Father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms round him and kissed him.” Luke15:20 Likewise, God as a Father yearns for all of us.
Have you ever thought that how you would grieve when you lose a deep meaningful relationship with a close companion is how God grieves when you stray away from him? Likewise, as a person who was created to be connected with the Living God, when one gets entangled in sin, there is loss of fellowship with God leaving one in a state of emptiness…experiencing a deep loss one can’t put a finger to.
Like the prodigal son… can you and I reconsider our faithfulness to Christ, remember the goodness of God; and come back to ourselves? Irrespective of how far one may have strayed from God, we have the reassurance that God still loves and longs for a child’s return. At the point of your decision to return back to God and earnestly love HIM …God sees you, reaches out and embraces you. “Come near to God and HE will come near to you….” James 4:8
