Revelations 3: 1-2
“…I know your deeds; you have a reputation of being Alive, but you are dead. Wake Up! Strengthen what remains and is about to die, for I have not found your deeds complete in the sight of God.”
A young lady walks through her home, her eyes sweeping through her house taking in the spotless white marbled floor, dirt free windows, immaculate kitchen, tidy bedrooms with their clean washrooms, and she gives a contented sign…all is well. However, as she takes a break in her sitting room, she chances to look up and her eyes lock in with the cobwebs marking her ceiling from one side of the room to the other; and that was so in every other room. ‘How did I miss seeing this?’ was the thought running through her mind!
It is in ‘sleep’ or a ‘state of slumber’ that as Christians we partake of unacceptable behavior before God which is now finding acceptance in Church. The wake up from sleep applies to different scenarios in our lives such as:- Unawareness of God’s Word, indifference to the teachings of God; procrastination of sin in our lives and indulgence in the ways of the World. The Wake up alert is one we need to pay attention to, for the bible warns us that Christ is coming back for a “bride who is spotless and without a wrinkle”…that is His Church. Ephesian 5:27
We are blessed to have the Word of God easily accessible to us. But how often do you read it? Do you make time to study and meditate upon the Word of God, so as to get to the depth of what God is telling you? It is only with the understanding of God’s Word, that one is able to know what pleases the Lord God; and with God’s grace choose to be obedient to his Word. That is what sets one apart to be a true follower of Christ.
As Christians, we tend to look at our lives with an attitude of I do not murder, fornicate, cheat, gossip, backbite, tell lies…. the line of I don’ts is long; and we become contented about ‘what we see in our mirror’ and so our relationship with God. However today we learn that there is a situation where one think’s that they are Alive in Christ; and yet they are dead in Christ.
It is of necessity for you and me to wake up and remain vigilant in Jesus Christ; for each one of us has a responsibility towards the state of our ‘houses’ (lives). In making ourselves ready for the Lord — our Fine linen will have to be bright and clean…. and these are the righteous acts of the saints. Rev. 19:7-8.
“Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you. Be very careful, then, how you live –not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” Ephesians 5:14-16.
