“Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.” 1 Peter 5:9
The word of God is our source of information about God, the Creator and Savior of the World; and also gives the true identity of the enemy, a master at deception whom man knowingly or unknowingly battles with on a daily basis. In Revelation 12:9 he is described as:… “the great dragon….that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world.”
Jesus Christ did not deny that Satan was real, or that he had power. But, he promised His disciples that the authority He conferred upon them would make them victorious over Satan’s power and would protect them against all his attempts to harm them. “It is important for all the Lord’s servants to recognize the authority He gave us, and learn to exercise it effectively.”
Do you have the Sword of the Spirit? The sword of the Christian is the Word of God spoken in the power of the Holy Spirit. It is an aggressive weapon as well as a means of defense. It is only a negligent warrior who charges into battle with a blunt sword or without a sword. In this spiritual warfare, it is paramount to have the word of God in our hearts and minds.
All spiritual victory is essentially bound to the Word of God. Satan retreats as the Word of God, the sword of the spirit is used against him. When Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, all three times he used God’s word against Satan. The third time Satan left him.
One will wonder why Satan doesn’t let up on their issues in life despite persistently applying the word of God against him. Instead of despairing, check yourself…could you in any way be grieving or quenching the Holy Spirit’s work in your life? Satan is quick to take advantage of that opening. In Ephesians 2:2 Satan is described as “the spirit who now works in the sons of disobedience”.
Derek prince challenges us that … ‘while God has not changed in what he looks for in his people; nor has Satan changed his tactics against God’s people. The strategy of Balaam against Israel Numbers 25 contains important warnings for us today. Christian, indiscipline and disobedience towards God makes one vulnerable to the enemy’s ploys and mischief.
“Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.”2 Timothy 2:15
