“Stand therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. ” Ephesians 6:14-15
In the armor of God, the feet of a Christian are shod with one’s readiness with the gospel of peace. The ancient soldier had on strong protective gear to guard his feet and ankles. These sandals or boots were to protect the feet and at the same time hold firmly on the ground as they were fitted with nails or armed with spikes; and the “greaves” made from brass were fitted to the legs designed to defend the feet from any danger. Then, it was unfeasible for a roman soldier to go into battle bare feet!
Likewise Christian, we are in a spiritual battle …one we are unable to fight without the feet being shod in the peace of God. When the Bible speaks of the gospel of peace, the emphasis is peace with God which is attained by accepting God’s gift of salvation…. “But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation” Colossians 1:22. Thus, as soldiers of the cross one can march through life’s battles with “feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace” Ephesians 6:15.
‘The gospel of peace enables one to tread confidently through canyons of conflict and controversy with others’. The Word of God gives one a firm foundation to base one’s decisions and purpose in life …enabling one to please God. King Solomon said, “When a man’s ways are pleasing to the Lord, he makes even his enemies to live at peace with him” Proverbs 16:7.
We are in a world plagued with chaos …and the intent of Satan is to rob us of our peace, but when the God of peace is with us, we do not need to be afraid nor lose heart. We can go into battle with courage because “the God of peace will soon crash Satan under your feet” (Rom 16:20).
Christian, remember who we are in Christ. Jesus Christ is in us and we are in HIM. We are children of the Almighty God and by God’s power, Satan has no authority over us…. unless we give him a place in our life.
God promised us peace in the midst of life’s storms.
