righteousnessTherefore, take unto you the whole armor of God that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.   Stand therefore, having your loins girded about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness Ephesians 6:13-14

A wound to the chest can be fatal. The ancient soldiers wore a breastplate covering their heart and lungs so that arrows cannot get to the most vulnerable part of one’s being….and kill him. In the same way, a Christian wears the breastplate of righteousness so that Satan’s arrows cannot kill him.

Our heart is vulnerable to the wickedness of this world, and however much a person is noted as good  within a given society … God considers man’s effort at righteousness as filthy rags (Isaiah 64:6b) .  When Jesus Christ died on the cross, his righteousness was credited to all who accept the gift of salvation; thus giving us a daily protection … the Breastplate of Righteousness. God sees man as sinless because of the Righteousness of Jesus Christ.

Christian, when we sin, we do not lose the gift of salvation; we are still God’s Children.  However, if Satan can get us to have wrong heart attitudes, allow sin to take root in our hearts, fail to confess and repent of the sin in our lives; it distances one from God and just like in the case of Adam/Eve… the hiding from God begins, thereafter a person is plunged further in the devil’s traps and unavoidably becomes the devil’s punching bag.  Just like a tall, yellow plant withers and finally dies due to the scorching sun and lack of water; so does a Christian who keeps away  from God.

Christian, put on the breastplate of Righteousness every day.    Ephesians 4:27 says , “not to give the devil a foothold in our lives” and  “Guard your heart above everything else because it is the source of your life” Proverbs 2:23
