“….Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest and repent.” Rev.3:19
There was this young child of about 2 years whom the mother on numerous accounts tried to keep away from a dangerous game; but because it seemed like fun….the little one was not about to heed the ‘No’ from the mother. In turn her mother gave her a ‘baby slap’ on her bottom to which the child wailed loudly. It was however interesting to note, that even as tears were rolling down this young girl’s cheeks… she reached out to her mother for comfort.
We call God ….Father and as we relate with him ….many times we find ourselves in a situation of that young child ….failing to hear or accept a No from the Heavenly Father.
In our day to day living, there are numerous instances when we get entangled in the mischief of this world and allow ourselves to partake of its darkness. My reference of the World is based on Galatians 5:19 “…sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; Idolatry and witchcraft: hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambitions, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies and the like.”
Also, when we are not alert to the leading of the Holy Spirit; and instead are blinded by the driving needs and desires of self, slowly our hearts turn away from the teachings of God. Thus, failing to abide in Christ; and in turn compromise with the world for comfort sake.
The word of God says that it is a ‘dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God’ Hebrews 10:26 – 31. In different moments of our lives, each one of us has tested the rebuke and discipline of our Father in Heaven. Nevertheless, in a state of discomfort one needs to be even more alert ….for the enemy is not only appeased with stealing one’s devotion from God, but his intention is to kill and eventually destroy one John 10:10; thus the false comforts he brings one’s way.
….Not to be caught up in the enemy’s web of lies; like this baby who turns and reaches out to the mother while her tears are still flowing…so should we reach out to God even when it feels like everything around us is crumbling to our feet and nothing makes sense anymore; for we have this assurance that God rebukes and disciplines those he loves. Rev 3:19
Instead of justifying ourselves before God or becoming bitter ….. In earnest, let us bear our hearts before God and repent of sin in our lives. God ‘heals the broken-hearted and binds up their wounds’ Psalms 147:3.
As we repent in earnest before God… a door opens for us and relief and healing comes through.
