A Branch that is full of green leaves gives one a nice feeling and looks good to the eye; however, our Lord expects us to be branches which bear fruits… ‘much more fruits’. A ‘living’ branch cannot exist without a tree; and in this case a Christian cannot exist without remaining in Christ Jesus.

John 15 tells us that Jesus Christ is the Vine…the True Vine; and the Father is the gardener who daily checks and prunes the grapevines to ensure a successful crop. For a Gardener to realize a bountiful harvest one has to prune the branches, a process which ‘controls and directs growth by pinching off the tip, reduce risk of falling branches by topping the larger branches – all resulting in increasing the yield or quality of fruits’. The Gardener removes deadwood from the vine.

You and I are the branches. When we remain in Christ and he remains in us, we are alive in Christ and we bear much fruit. The Lord said, “This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:8.

When Christ lives in you and you remain in Him, obedience is produced within one as a result of one’s love for Christ, allowing the Lord Jesus to be the center of one’s life. Fruits are outcome of one’s love and obedience to God.
