Then he said to them all: “ If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.” Luke 9:23
During the Easter Celebrations, I saw this young man carrying a big cross and I marveled at the ease in his stride. However, on a closer look I noted a small wheel at the bottom of the big Cross he was carrying. Thus, the carefree and relaxed walk!
This led me to think about the instruction the Lord Jesus Christ gave us about the Cross; and that was even before he was crucified… and that was “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”
Often we find ourselves in a situation where although we profess to be followers of Christ (Christians); we are neither willing to deny self nor carry our cross daily. Thus the ‘small wheel’ attached on our cross; so that Christianity is not burdensome and in no way a hindrance to our desired life style.
For one to be a true follower of Christ…the Scriptures have to be Alive. It is then that one can purposefully deny self by setting aside one’s desire(s) if at any time it conflicts with the Lord’s teaching or does not bring Glory and Honor to God.
The bible tells us that God cannot be mocked. In his words he says, “Then all the churches will know that I am he who searches hearts and mind, and I will repay each of you according to your deeds.” Rev 2:23.
Let us watch out for ‘A Cross on Wheels’ in our lives; so as to follow paths or make decisions which are in line with the Word of God.
